I watched Hema Malini films for '70s look: Deepika Padukone
Thrilled with the rave reviews her performance in 'Om Shanti Om' has won, budding actress Deepika Padukone says she geared up for the '70s era character by watching films starring Hema Malini and Helen. 'I watched a lot of films starring Hema Malini and Helen, for instance 'Jewel Thief' and 'Seeta Aur Geeta', to notice how they were made. 'In the films of that time, everything was over the top - the emotions were exaggerated though I enjoy the originality of the '70s era films. The actors were more graceful and their body language was entirely different from today's actors,' Deepika told IANS. 'I don't count myself as a big star yet, there is a long way for me to go. I think my father handled success very well and it is in my genes to be humble,' the daughter of ace badminton player Prakash Padukone said. The actress was here Friday to celebrate the success of Shopper's Stop-OSO line, inspired by the movie at its store in Rajouri Garden in west Delhi. The doe-eyed actress has struck fame with her debut film and is overjoyed. 'Honestly, when we were shooting for the film I had never thought that it would be a huge hit. I just gave my 100 percent to it. 'Also, when you are working for a film you feel you have given it your best. However, when you later see your work you find so numerous things that need improvement. I think it is just the start,' said a candid Deepika. The newcomer is all praise for director Farah Khan for helping her to get accustomed to the camera. 'Farah planned it in such a system that I had to shoot scenes with small dialogues on the first day and gradually moved on to bigger scenes with longer dialogues. It helped me in performing well to a great extent. 'The '60s-'70s fashion is in vogue again. I am completely bowled over by Farah, who dared to use that look in her film. She has portray it so well.' However, the model-turned actress agrees that fashion is completely different in Bollywood and on the ramp. 'There is a lot of difference connecting fashion on the ramp and that portrayed in films. Though it was a little weird to wear such clothes on screen, but Manish (Malhotra) helped me get the confidence, as we couldn't afford to go wrong with the looks.'

I will be around for long: Deepika Padukone
Her debut movie "Om Shanti Om" has been a success but latest Bollywood sensation Deepika Padukone attributes it mostly to her co-star Shahrukh Khan. The model-turned actress, who plays a established girl in the movie, is humble in her success and believes she has a long way to go in the tinsel world. "When you start working in a movie, you never think that it's going to be a superhit. You just enjoy working," she said while referring to "Om Shanti Om" which was released last week and has been quite a triumph at the box office. At the same time, she gives "a lot" of credit to her co-star Shahrukh Khan, who plays an actor in the film which is based on the theme of re-incarnation. As "Om Shanti Om" was released along with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's romantic flick "Saawariya", film critics had foretell a tough competition. It, however, proved wrong as "Om Shanti Om" clearly scored over "Saawariya". Talk about the concept of rebirth or reincarnation to Deepika and she says she has no opinion on it. "I have never given re-incarnation a thought actually," said the daughter of legendary badminton player Prakash Padukone. Deepika confess to have learnt many a tip from the film legends of yesteryears - Hema Malini and Helen - to help her play the character of a traditional girl of 70s in her debut film. "I have seen a couple of movie theater of 70s, specially of Hema Malini and Helen and that's where the inspiration came from," she said. - economictimes

Deepika Padukone Wardrobe Malfunction !
Wardrobe Malfunction is as much an professional hazard for Deepika Padukone as for any other model, as she recalls the close call once, during one of her college fashion shows. Had she not stopped on the ramp and pulled up her top, she would have had the worst wardrobe play up ever in her life. Says the glam doll: "In one of my college fashion shows, I had to sashay down the ramp with a tight fitting tube top. I wore it for the first time in my life and didn’t realize that my body was too slippery to hold the top, as I had applied lots of body oil." "When I started to walk on the ramp, I felt my top slipping down slowly. I kept walking and it continued coming down. There was no way out with spectators all around. So, by the time I reached at the front, I felt the need to adjust it, otherwise it would have embarrassed me. So, I blocked for a while and adjusted it in front of hundreds of people." She never forgets this experience and has become quite conscious of taking care of even minor details before walking on the ramp to avoid repetition of such episode. "One doesn’t have time to look down or up. One has to deliberate on oneself rather than anything else. I feel, such incidents can cause disaster for one’s career."
